DIANA (Toronto Synth Pop)
DIANA comparisons defy eras; from Roxy Music to Toro Y Moi, from Style Council to Nite Jewel, from Sade to Twin Sister. This makes sense; though they're happy to be in this good company, for DIANA the point is pushing forward, and that they do.
MOZART's SISTER (Montreal synthpop, Arbutus recs)
Beautiful, bursting synth-filled pop melodies. Influenced by mainstream R & B and Prince, '90s trip-hop and Björk, and the current shift in electronic music.
CABAAL (Montreal electronic/experimental)
As Cabaal, Canadian producer and musician Ben Globerman manipulates modular synths, drum machines, samplers and controllers into his own nuanced world of rhythmic techno clamour and quiet post-industrial ambience. Cabaal’s sounds emerge out of various natural and constructed processes, from altered acoustic field recordings to purely digital renderings, resulting in five LPs and two EPs since 2011. He’s played throughout North America, participated in New York City’s 2013 Red Bull Music Academy, and worked in sound design for film in Montréal, Ottawa and elsewhere, as well as for fashion and commercial projects. Live, Cabaal operates various controllers and machines to build cathartic rhythmic and ambient layers all improvised on the spot. He is currently working on two installations: "Call to Prayer" and "Remote Access".
