DANA JEAN PHOENIX (Toronto Synthwave)
We are so excited to have Keytar Wizard Dana Jean Phoenix back at TARG. Dana Jean has gained a following in the international Synthwave scene, collaborating with Dreamwave and Darksynth heavyweights such as GosT, Perturbator, Timecop1983, Highway Superstar, and Sunglasses Kid. Her original music has been featured on 'The Voice' (US), and the original feature film ‘The Walking Deceased’. 80’s synth pop + funk + Magical Synthwave Retro-Vibes = DJP
CHOIRZ (Toronto ElectroPop)
CHOIRZ, a new electro pop project by Brandon Wars (ZUKU, Flying Fortress), features a unique blend of new wave and pop with mesmerizing electronic instrumentation. Chris Rites (Crystal Castles) provides dark, sexy rhythms behind the kit while Brandon’s haunting vocals deliver these moody synthetic tunes straight to your mind & soul. If you like a little darkness with your dancing CHOIRZ is for you.
RIGID BODY DYNAMICS ( OttawaHand-Crafted Free-Range Electro)
”Detroit to Dusseldorf” classic synth action. For fans of Kraftwerk & early Hip Hop. Unfussy drum machine patterns and sparse production that sound as hollow as a German showroom dummy. So stiff that it’s funky
Like many during the pre-vaccine Covid era, Ottawa based Paul Anthony (Bishops Bloc, Rising High Records) turned to the music of his youth for comfort. Dusting off his vinyl collection revealed that 1983 was a pivotal time in electronic music history. “This was year zero, when the dollar to Yen exchange rate and shipments of the very first MIDI instruments into stores lead to a radical shift in music production. For the first time you could use a ten dollar cable to connect your Roland synth to your friend’s Yamaha drum machine and your cousin’s Korg sequencer. Suddenly the idea of the home studio became a reality, with individuals now able to create complete tracks without having to step foot into an expensive studio.”
Coupled with the arrival of the compact disc, video games and home computers, Electro in the early 1980s celebrated a fantastic technological future that was seemingly just around corner. Vocoders implored that we Rock it / Don't stop it at the Grammy Awards.
“During the lockdowns, I realized that it was never too late to revisit the past via the present, and I began to record a series of tracks that traced a path from Detroit to Dusseldorf as Rigid Body Dynamics”.
Time to get out the linoleum and start poppin’ and lockin’.
